Key Ideas
  • Horizon Fuel Cell Group secures an order for 100 fuel cell systems for 42-tonne trucks with a 1,500km range in partnership with Chinese companies.
  • The VL-III Series fuel cell technology by Horizon has been successful in powering commercial vehicles across continents with hundreds of units deployed.
  • Horizon anticipates a 20% reduction in hydrogen consumption in heavy-duty fuel cell trucks with the upcoming VLS-IV Series 400kW fuel cell stack.
  • Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles face challenges in Western markets, but partnerships like PowerCell and Bosch aim to accelerate fuel cell adoption in China's mobility and industrial sectors.
The Horizon Fuel Cell Group based in Singapore has recently announced a significant order for the installation of 100 fuel cell systems in lorries manufactured by the Chinese company Shanghai Wuliu Automotive Technology in collaboration with Z Truck Automotive Technology. These 42-tonne trucks are equipped with a 250-kilowatt fuel cell, offering an impressive range of over 1,500 kilometers. Horizon's VL-III Series fuel cell technology, introduced in 2022, has already powered numerous commercial vehicles globally, showcasing its reliability in real-world operations. The company's upcoming VLS-IV Series 400kW fuel cell stack is expected to enhance efficiency by reducing hydrogen consumption by up to 20% in heavy-duty trucks. While Western markets pose challenges for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, partnerships like the one between PowerCell and Bosch are focused on driving fuel cell adoption in China's transportation and industrial sectors. This collaboration aims to explore new applications such as automotive stacks and integration in construction and backup power scenarios.
