Proteus Energy has launched the Proteus Maritime Fuel Cell Solution, a cutting-edge hydrogen fuel-based system designed for ports and vessels. The first product, Proteus75, features 75 kW fuel cell stacks that can be combined to fulfill larger power needs. The solution targets harbor craft and various vessel types in coastal, offshore support, and inland waterway sectors. Developed in collaboration with Symbio France, a hydrogen fuel cell specialist, the technology offers compact, lightweight, and high-energy density solutions critical for vessels with space and weight constraints. CEO Dr. Lars Gruenitz emphasized the importance of clean energy solutions in the maritime industry and praised the system's cost-effectiveness for decarbonization efforts. Benefits of the solution include zero tailpipe emissions, minimal noise and vibration, low maintenance costs, fast refueling times, and long-term hydrogen storage capabilities. Proteus's fuel cell technology also enhances electric propulsion, extending vessel range and improving efficiency. The offering will be supported by a two-year performance guarantee and features high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks for safe onboard storage. Furthermore, Proteus collaborates with port operators to provide customized refueling solutions and infrastructure. The solution is slated for delivery starting in January 2026, with DNV type approval expected by year-end, showcasing a significant step towards sustainable maritime operations.
