Oman has unveiled its comprehensive green hydrogen strategy, introducing Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) to implement and manage the country's hydrogen industries. The strategy aligns with Oman Vision 2040, aiming to enhance energy security, economic diversification, and environmental sustainability. Significant land has been allocated for green hydrogen facilities in regions with abundant renewable energy sources. Private investments totaling $30bn have been secured for facilities aiming to surpass production targets by 2030. Additionally, Oman is embracing blue hydrogen as a transition fuel, with plans for a blue hydrogen and ammonia plant in Duqm. This facility will support local industries, transport sectors, and international markets. Carbon capture and storage initiatives are in place to manage emissions from production. The development of new energy technologies and value chains is crucial, with strategic partnerships and infrastructure like the Port of Duqm playing a central role. Hydrom's first auctions have awarded contracts for green ammonia production facilities, with plans for export-oriented operations in Duqm, boosting renewable energy capacity and facilitating green ammonia production. Investments from companies like ACME Cleantech Solutions are set to expand green hydrogen and ammonia production capacities, with long-term offtake agreements in place. Overall, Oman's focus on green hydrogen and its innovative approaches position it as a key player in the global shift towards clean energy.
