The French classification society, Bureau Veritas, has granted approval in principle (AiP) to SECO MARINE for their innovative compressed hydrogen storage system intended for integration underdeck on vessels. This approval signifies a significant step in the advancement of compact hydrogen-based energy solutions within the maritime industry. The system, compliant with BV rule note NR678 for hydrogen-fueled ships, utilizes compressed gaseous hydrogen stored in Type 4 tanks to power fuel cells, with a design that allows integration into confined spaces below deck. Benoit Perrot, Leader Marine Hydrogen Projects at SECO MARINE, commended the technical excellence and collaboration of all teams and partners involved, giving special recognition to *France 2030* and the Pays de la Loire Region for their instrumental support. Matthieu de Tugny, Executive Vice President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, highlighted the role of such innovative hydrogen systems in driving a more sustainable future for shipping. In another development, Rux Energy and Bureau Veritas have announced a partnership to provide hydrogen storage and production solutions.
