Empowering India: Green Hydrogen Vision for a Sustainable Future
Key Ideas
- India's Union Minister emphasizes the need to scale up green hydrogen ecosystem, focusing on manufacturing, infrastructure development, and empowering MSMEs.
- India leads in green hydrogen sector with early implementation through SIGHT scheme, drawing global attention and positioning ahead in adoption.
- MSMEs in India are pivotal in achieving self-reliance, reducing dependence on imports, and contributing to green hydrogen technology development.
- Introduction of Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme and standards enhances credibility, establishes authenticity, and boosts India's export potential.
At a recent workshop on the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), Union Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted India's commitment to scaling up the green hydrogen ecosystem. With a focus on expanding manufacturing capacity, developing infrastructure, and empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the government aims to drive innovation and strengthen self-reliance. India has already made strides in the green hydrogen sector through the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme, positioning itself ahead of many countries in adoption. The MSME sector, with its precision manufacturing, indigenous innovation, and adaptability, is identified as a key player in the green hydrogen technology development journey.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) introduced the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme to ensure the authenticity and credibility of green hydrogen, making it globally desirable and export-ready. With partnerships established with countries like Japan and Singapore, India is poised to expand its footprint in global hydrogen markets. The country's vision to be fully developed by 2047 centers around green hydrogen as a transformative element, with the MSME sector as a significant enabler. The Green Hydrogen Standard and Certification Framework, introduced by MNRE, will further boost India's presence in the global market, supported by formal strategic initiatives under the NGHM.
