Energys Receives Approval for Green Hydrogen Plant in Victoria
Key Ideas
  • Energys has been granted planning approval for a green hydrogen production facility in Hastings, Victoria, after 18 months of engagement with the Victorian planning system.
  • The project includes a 1 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer powered by grid electricity, aiming to displace grey hydrogen and reduce emissions in various sectors.
  • Coregas will operate the site and handle downstream logistics, with the hydrogen produced being marketed and sold for industrial gas, transport, and stationary energy applications.
  • CEO Roger Knight highlighted the project's contribution to decarbonizing key sectors and positioning Victoria at the forefront of green hydrogen innovation.
Australia's hydrogen company Energys has secured planning approval for a green hydrogen production plant in Hastings, Victoria. The project, focused on industrial green hydrogen supply, aims to replace emissions-intensive grey hydrogen with a zero-carbon alternative. At its core, the facility will feature a 1 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer, running on surplus renewable energy and low-cost electricity. Coregas, an Australian hydrogen producer, will manage the site operations and downstream logistics including compression, liquefaction, and distribution. The green hydrogen produced is set to lower emissions in power generation, road transport, and marine industries by displacing diesel use. Energys' CEO, Roger Knight, emphasized the project's significance in advancing green hydrogen innovation and driving decarbonization in critical sectors. This initiative positions Victoria as a leader in sustainable energy practices and highlights the commitment to reducing carbon footprints through innovative solutions.
