Solvay and Enagás have signed an agreement to collaborate on developing a hydrogen storage hub in Polanco, Cantabria, Spain. Leveraging Solvay's expertise in repurposing salt caverns originally used for soda ash production, and Enagás' experience in energy transport and hydrogen infrastructure, the project aims to support Spain's ambition to lead in renewable hydrogen production and export. The initiative will provide a secure, flexible, and scalable solution for storing renewable hydrogen, crucial for maintaining network stability and addressing intermittency in renewable electricity. The partnership underscores the European chemical industry's pivotal role in enabling clean energy solutions, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability and decarbonization.
