The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has introduced a proposal for dual-colour number plates specifically designed for hydrogen vehicles. The objective behind this initiative is to enhance the identification process of hydrogen-powered vehicles and encourage the adoption of green mobility. The new number plates will feature a combination of green and blue backgrounds, with varying figure colours depending on the vehicle's category. Commercial hydrogen vehicles will exhibit a distinctive green top half and blue bottom half, adorned with yellow figures. On the other hand, private hydrogen vehicles will showcase the same green-blue colour scheme but with white figures. Moreover, vehicles operating as rental cabs will be distinguished by having a black top half and blue bottom half, complemented by yellow figures on the plate. By implementing these dual-colour number plates, the authorities aim to facilitate the recognition of hydrogen-fuel-operated vehicles for both regulatory purposes and public awareness. This step is also aligned with the broader goal of promoting eco-friendly transportation practices across the nation.
