Warradarge Energy: Pioneering Domestic Hydrogen Supply for Mining and Transport Sectors
Key Ideas
  • Xodus in partnership with Warradarge Energy is developing a commercial-scale renewable hydrogen and ammonia project in Western Australia.
  • The project's primary focus is on supplying domestic hydrogen to decarbonise the mining and heavy transport sectors.
  • The initiative aims to transition into an ammonia export project, benefiting from the strategic location in the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area.
  • The Australian hydrogen market is rapidly growing, with government incentives like the hydrogen production tax incentive supporting renewable hydrogen producers.
Energy consultancy Xodus, in collaboration with Warradarge Energy, has secured land in Western Australia for a renewable hydrogen and ammonia project named Warradarge Energy. The project, initially targeting domestic hydrogen supply for mining and heavy transport sectors, plans to expand into an ammonia export venture. With over 16,000 hectares secured in Warradarge, the project is progressing well with power supply agreements in negotiation and offtake partners enlisted. The Australian hydrogen market, currently valued at over A$225bn, is witnessing a surge in green hydrogen projects, supported by government policies like the hydrogen production tax incentive. Warradarge Energy aims to bridge the gap between smaller-scale facilities and future gigawatt-scale hydrogen projects, focusing on scaling up renewable energy projects and reducing technology risks and costs.
