NANO Nuclear Energy Inc., headquartered in New York, announced the filing of six new utility patent applications with the USPTO for its ZEUS™ microreactor. The ZEUS™ microreactor is being designed as a solid-core battery reactor with a fully sealed core that utilizes a highly conductive moderator matrix to dissipate fission heat. By eliminating fluid inside the core, the risk of in-core coolant accidents is reduced significantly.
The compact design of ZEUS™ allows all reactor and support systems to fit within a standard shipping container, making it highly transportable to locations lacking traditional energy infrastructure. Moreover, the microreactor is versatile, capable of providing thermal energy for heat applications or converting it to electricity, including for non-electric uses like hydrogen production.
Prof. Massimiliano Fratoni, Senior Director of NANO Nuclear, emphasized the importance of these patent applications in safeguarding ZEUS's key processes and components, not only for the company's benefit but also for advancing the entire advanced nuclear reactor industry. CEO James Walker highlighted the dedication of the engineering and technical teams in advancing the development of next-generation microreactors like ZEUS™.
NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. aims to become a diversified and vertically integrated company with a focus on various business lines, including cutting-edge portable and microreactor technologies, fuel fabrication, transportation, space applications, and consulting services. The company is actively developing advanced nuclear reactor products like KRONOS MMR™ Energy System, ZEUS™ microreactor, and ODIN low-pressure coolant reactor, aiming to offer clean energy solutions that are portable and on-demand capable.
Through its subsidiaries, NANO Nuclear is also involved in fuel fabrication, transportation, and exploring nuclear applications for space. Advanced Fuel Transportation Inc. (AFT) is working on building a transportation company to provide HALEU fuel to various entities, while HALEU Energy Fuel Inc. (HEF) is focusing on developing a domestic fuel fabrication pipeline. Additionally, NANO Nuclear Space Inc. (NNS) is exploring the potential of micronuclear reactors in space applications.
The company's commitment to innovation and strengthening its intellectual property portfolio underscores its positive outlook toward advancing nuclear technology and clean energy solutions.
