Plug Power Inc., based in Latham, N.Y., recently announced a significant achievement with its hydrogen plant in Woodbine, Georgia, where a record-breaking 300 metric tons of liquid hydrogen were produced in April 2025. This output represents the highest monthly production to date and sets a new benchmark for the U.S. hydrogen industry. The plant, inaugurated in January 2024, stands out as the largest electrolytic liquid hydrogen production facility in the United States. It operates using Plug's proprietary GenEco proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer technology and is capable of producing 15 tons of liquid hydrogen per day. The continuous success of the Georgia plant demonstrates the scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of Plug's integrated approach to hydrogen production. Plug Power's CEO, Andy Marsh, emphasized the practical impact of the Georgia facility, stating that it represents commercial hydrogen production with proven technology that operates around the clock. The Georgia plant is part of Plug's expanding hydrogen generation network, which includes operational plants in Tennessee and Louisiana, collectively boasting a production capacity of 40 tons per day. The strong performance in Georgia reflects the increasing market demand for Plug's GenEco electrolyzers, as highlighted by Jose Luis Crespo, Chief Revenue Officer at Plug Power. The hydrogen generated at the plant is supplied to major customers in logistics and distribution such as Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot, aiding them in reducing carbon emissions and maintaining a stable, domestically sourced fuel supply.
