Nxtra by Airtel, the data centre arm of Bharti Airtel, is focusing on empowering regional India by expanding its digital infrastructure beyond key metros. The CEO highlighted the importance of edge data centre networks in meeting the high demand for low-latency, high-performance content delivery from OTT platforms and CDN providers. With over 120 edge facilities and 14 hyperscale data centres, Nxtra ensures seamless streaming experiences even in tier 3 and tier 4 cities. The company recently expanded its edge presence in cities like Agartala, Patna, and Vijayawada to reduce latency and bandwidth costs for users. Nxtra is also committed to sustainability, having joined the RE100 initiative and aiming to be net-zero by 2031. They have deployed hydrogen-ready fuel cells at their data centers, making them the first data centre company in India to adopt this technology. Additionally, Nxtra conducted tree plantation drives on World Environment Day and plans to invest USD 600 million to increase its capacity to 400 MW by 2027, positioning India as a key player in the global digital and AI infrastructure landscape.
