Toyota has announced its foray into using low-carbon E20 fuel and liquid hydrogen in a bid to extend the lifecycle of internal combustion engines. The company is set to participate in the ENEOS Super Taikyu Series 2025 Fuji 24 Hours Race with two vehicles, showcasing the #28 TGRR GR86 Future FR Concept running on E20 fuel and the #32 TGRR GR Corolla H2 Concept powered by liquid hydrogen. Toyota aims to leverage these alternative fuels to garner technical feedback and improve its development of eco-friendly options. The brand also highlighted its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality through the exploration of efficient engines compatible with a range of fuels, emphasizing the significance of low-carbon liquid fuels like E20 in existing vehicles. Additionally, Toyota is investing in liquid hydrogen, which boasts higher density for increased fuel efficiency. The company's Mirai model, propelled by hydrogen fuel cells, stands out for producing only water as a byproduct, enabling drivers to journey over 300 miles without refueling. With Toyota's push towards low-carbon fuels and electric technology, internal combustion engine vehicles could see an extended lifespan on the roads, contributing to eco-friendly transportation solutions.
