The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy in Kuwait has made significant progress in enhancing energy efficiency by installing smart electricity meters in the majority of schools and mosques, allowing for remote power control. This move, spearheaded by Minister Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, aims to reduce unnecessary electricity consumption during non-peak hours. Additionally, the Ministry is actively promoting sustainable practices, as evidenced by its involvement in the Kuwait Sustainable Energy Conference. Undersecretary Dr. Adel Al-Zamel highlighted Kuwait's commitments to renewable energy projects and hydrogen utilization at the conference, focusing on the potential to generate over 3,000 megawatts of electricity through initiatives like the Shagaya and Abdaliya projects. By 2029, Kuwait plans to expand its renewable energy capacity to 4,800 megawatts, leveraging various technologies. Dr. Al-Zamel emphasized the importance of clean energy transition in supporting economic growth and national interests, especially through green and blue hydrogen development utilizing the region's resources.
