Researchers at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, in collaboration with industrial partners, have developed a groundbreaking prototype house powered solely by hydrogen and photovoltaics. Led by Professor Magdalena Dudek, the interdisciplinary team from the Faculty of Energy and Fuels created the first of its kind facility in Poland. The house's energy independence is maintained through a combination of electricity from photovoltaic panels, battery accumulators, and a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell for additional energy when needed. The hydrogen is produced on-site through an electrolyzer and stored in tanks, enabling electricity and heat production during colder seasons. The prototype, named DOM H2, serves as an autonomous power supply system for a single-family house, demonstrating the potential of hydrogen as an energy storage and carrier. With a 6.4 kWp capacity photovoltaic installation, surplus electricity is stored in electrochemical batteries and hydrogen for continuous power supply. The innovative solutions developed can be applied to various infrastructures beyond residential homes, including mobile hotels, power sources for events, and emergency services. The prototype made its debut at the international hydrogen technology fair in Poznań, showcasing its role in supporting the energy transition process and highlighting Poland's strides in renewable energy and sustainable practices.
