India has unveiled plans to revolutionize its freight movement sector by introducing zero-emission trucks (ZETs) on selected priority corridors. These corridors, identified by the office of the principal scientific adviser, aim to combat air pollution, enhance energy security, and contribute to India's long-term climate target of achieving 'net zero' emissions by 2070. With trucks currently accounting for a significant portion of transport-related carbon dioxide emissions in the country, the initiative to deploy ZETs is crucial for mitigating environmental impact. The government's significant allocation of ₹500 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme underscores its dedication to promoting the adoption of ZETs and establishing a robust national infrastructure network for electric and hydrogen-based fuel technologies.
