Spanish energy company Moeve and Amsterdam-based e-SAF developer Zaffra have entered into a partnership aimed at advancing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Europe. The agreement focuses on exploring the establishment of e-SAF production facilities in southern Spain, coinciding with Moeve's ongoing green hydrogen initiative, the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley. With the goal of meeting the EU's ReFuelEU Aviation targets, which mandate a percentage of SAF usage at EU airports by 2030, Moeve and Zaffra are set to collaborate on creating e-SAF plants. Carlos Barrasa, Moeve's Executive Vice President, highlighted the significance of the partnership in realizing Spain's first e-SAF plants, emphasizing the alignment with renewable energy efforts and climate goals. Zaffra's CEO, Jan Toshka, expressed enthusiasm for the joint venture, citing their combined strengths in technology and market readiness to propel e-SAF production responsibly and at scale. The partnership signifies a crucial step towards a sustainable aviation future in Europe, showcasing the potential of cooperation between industry players to drive decarbonization efforts in the aviation sector.
