Key Ideas
  • NatPower H and HyNaval sign a Memorandum of Understanding to develop hydrogen solutions for decarbonizing the maritime sector, focused on France.
  • The collaboration includes building hydrogen and electric refueling stations, supporting zero-emission vessel rollout, and producing 20 hydrogen-powered vessels by 2030.
  • The partnership will also explore installing hydrogen refueling infrastructure at French ports and expanding a zero-emission fuel network for waterway transport.
  • Both companies aim to leverage their expertise to accelerate the ecological transition in shipping and fast-track the production of sustainable boats.
NatPower H and HyNaval have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on developing hydrogen-based solutions to decarbonize the maritime sector, particularly in France. The focus of their partnership is on establishing hydrogen and electric refueling stations and facilitating the introduction of zero-emission vessels in French ports. NatPower H will bring its sustainable energy infrastructure expertise to the table, while HyNaval will contribute its specialization in hydrogen vessel design and retrofitting, operating from the Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux. The agreement includes a supply deal where NatPower H will be responsible for providing green hydrogen to HyNaval, supporting the production of 20 hydrogen-powered vessels by 2030. Additionally, the two companies will work together to evaluate the feasibility of setting up hydrogen refueling infrastructure in key French ports and collaborate on creating a more extensive zero-emission fuel network for maritime and inland waterway transportation. This partnership, scheduled to run through 2030 with possible extensions, signifies a shared dedication to expediting the ecological transition in the shipping industry. Both NatPower H and HyNaval intend to utilize their global reach and technical capabilities to promote the use of hydrogen within maritime operations. Andrea Minerdo, Chairman of NatPower H, emphasized their joint vision for global expansion and the reinforcement of their refueling network through the integration with HyNaval's vessel construction and retrofitting locations. The overarching goal is to hasten the production of the next generation of environmentally sustainable boats.
