GILLIG has delivered a fleet of the newest generation of battery-electric buses (BEBs) to the counties of Kaua‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i Island in Hawaii. The buses were showcased at an event in Honolulu, symbolizing the state's dedication to green and sustainable transportation. These zero-emission buses, built on GILLIG's low-floor platform, offer enhanced performance and durability. Each bus is equipped with 686kWh of onboard energy storage, providing extended range and operational flexibility. The city of Honolulu plans to add up to 78 of these BEBs by 2035 to achieve a fully zero-emission fleet. Federal funding from the Transit Administration, contributions from the Hawai‘i State Energy Office, Volkswagen Settlement funds, and additional county investments supported the procurement of these eco-friendly buses.
