MAN Truck & Bus unveiled its first electric coach model, the Lion’s Coach 14 E, at a press and customer event in Ankara. This initiative positions MAN as the first European manufacturer to offer a battery-electric coach, with production scheduled to commence in late 2026 at the Ankara plant. The 3-axle vehicle boasts a 650 km range powered by in-house NMC battery packs, integrating advanced charging infrastructure compatibility with up to 375 kW power. MAN’s electric coach matches its diesel counterpart in passenger logistics and features a climate-friendly CO₂-based HVAC system. MAN's Head of Strategy Product Bus, Michael Roth, emphasized the significance of the electric coach in meeting EU CO2 reduction standards, noting the cost-effectiveness of battery-electric models compared to hydrogen coaches. The suitability of electric coaches for short to mid-range operations with depot charging access was underscored, along with the role of incentives in driving technology adoption in European countries. The Lion’s Coach 14 E development is centralized at MAN's Product Development Center in Ankara, a recently inaugurated facility supported by the Turkish government. This strategic investment represents MAN's commitment to sustainable transportation and aligns with the evolving landscape of electric vehicles in the European market.
