REVG Rhein-Erft-Verkehrsgesellschaft in Kerpen, Germany, unveiled a groundbreaking initiative towards sustainable public transport by introducing 26 hydrogen-powered fuel cell hybrid buses. This move signifies a significant step in the district's journey towards emission-free mobility, with Messer providing the refueling technology and necessary hydrogen supply. The collaboration aims to replace conventional diesel engine buses, resulting in around 1,500 tons of greenhouse gas emissions being avoided annually. The buses, with a remarkable range of up to 350 kilometers per tank filling, will be refueled at a hydrogen filling station facilitated by Messer on the REVG premises. Since the trial operations commenced in November 2024, the fleet has expanded rapidly with over 400 successful refueling operations, indicating a seamless transition to hydrogen as a fuel source. Andreas Noky from Messer highlighted the efficiency of the refueling process, with an average time under 10 minutes per refill, comparable to traditional diesel refueling. The positive impact is evident, with 65 tons of greenhouse gases already being prevented due to the new buses and expanded refueling services. Messer's expertise in hydrogen extends globally, with involvement in the US fuel cell bus market since 2011 and upcoming ventures in green hydrogen production in Germany and Belgium. The collaborative efforts underline the commitment towards innovative, sustainable transportation solutions and the pivotal role of hydrogen in achieving emission reduction targets.
