Motor Oil, under its AVIN brand, has introduced Greece's first publicly accessible hydrogen refueling station in Agioi Theodoroi. The station, located near the company's refinery, supports both light and heavy-duty hydrogen vehicles, symbolizing Greece's commitment to cleaner transport solutions. This €3 million initiative, with half of the funding from the EU's CEF - Transport programme, currently sources green hydrogen from Austria's Wien Energie, soon transitioning to Motor Oil's local production. The project was executed by BFS, a Motor Oil subsidiary. Greece is primed for hydrogen production in 2026, targeting to supply its refinery and lubricants division. Additional hydrogen stations are planned, including ones in Akrata and at OSY's Thriasio bus depot. Integration of hydrogen vehicles into public transport is on the horizon through programs like TRIERES, with municipalities and transportation entities set to adopt hydrogen-powered vehicles. Despite facing regulatory challenges, the nation is poised for significant growth in hydrogen infrastructure, envisioning up to 20 stations. Motor Oil's proactive stance in hydrogen mobility, as voiced by AVIN Oil's General Manager, signifies a forward-looking approach to sustainable transport solutions in Greece and aligns with broader EU targets for clean energy and mobility.
