German operator WestVerkehr has placed an order for 12 new Kite Hydroliner hydrogen buses from zero-emission bus manufacturer Wrightbus. The buses will be operated in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, connecting Heinsberg, Hückelhoven, and Erkelenz. These buses join the existing fleet of 43 hydrogen-powered buses in Germany, with a further 130 expected by the end of the year. With a range of up to 1,000 kilometers, quick refueling in less than 10 minutes, and a capacity for 90 passengers, the Kite Hydroliner is designed for long journeys. This move aligns with the VDV and GSR2 standards, ensuring compliance with European safety regulations. Additionally, Wrightbus has inaugurated a European service center in Brühl, emphasizing its commitment to supporting the hydrogen bus network in the region. Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Wrightbus, highlighted the environmental benefits of these hydrogen buses and the positive impact on air quality in North Rhine-Westphalia.
