ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabia-based energy transition and water desalination company, has partnered with major Malaysian entities for investments of up to $10bn. The agreements, signed during the ASEAN-GCC summit in Kuala Lumpur, aim to leverage Malaysia's ecosystem and Saudi Arabia's expertise in energy transitions to support decarbonisation efforts in Southeast Asia. ACWA Power has committed to developing 12.5GW of power generation capacity by 2040, with an initial investment of $10bn, in collaboration with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority. These partnerships will assist Malaysia in achieving its target of raising renewable energy capacity to 70% by 2050. Additionally, agreements with entities like Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Terengganu, and UEM Lestra will focus on projects including floating solar photovoltaic systems, gas turbine technology, and water desalination. The collaborations also align with Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap and Saudi Vision 2030 for global climate leadership. ACWA Power's CEO emphasized the importance of these agreements in accelerating the deployment of clean energy solutions, fostering technology transfer, job creation, and driving long-term economic growth and social well-being in local communities. This strategic move reflects ACWA Power's expansion in Southeast Asia and its commitment to supporting the region's energy transition.
