Honeywell and NTPC Green Partnership for SAF Production in India
Key Ideas
- Honeywell and NTPC Green signed an MoU to explore sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in India using eFining™ technology.
- The collaboration aims to support decarbonization goals, help airlines meet carbon reduction targets, and enhance India's energy security.
- The partnership combines Honeywell UOP's SAF expertise with NTPC's green hydrogen projects development to promote cleaner aviation fuels.
- The study's completion by mid-2025 will pave the way for India to become a SAF hub, export SAF, and achieve emissions reduction objectives.
Honeywell and NTPC Green have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to investigate the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. Through this partnership, they plan to leverage Honeywell's eFining™ technology to create SAF from carbon dioxide (CO2) taken from NTPC's power plants along with green hydrogen. The primary focus of this collaboration is on aiding decarbonization efforts, assisting airlines in reaching their carbon reduction goals, and supporting India's energy security initiatives. DMR Panda, Executive Director at NTPC Ltd., highlighted the importance of SAF production in the aviation sector and its role in driving projects related to green hydrogen.
The strategic alliance combines Honeywell UOP's proficiency in SAF production with NTPC's expertise in green hydrogen projects to introduce cleaner aviation fuels. Ranjit Kulkarni, Vice President of Energy and Sustainability Solutions at Honeywell India, expressed enthusiasm about advancing India's shift towards cleaner aviation fuels and striving for carbon neutrality through this partnership. The completion of the ongoing study, anticipated by mid-2025, is expected to assist India in becoming a prominent SAF hub while aiding the nation in achieving its emissions reduction targets by establishing pathways for SAF production and export to other regions.
