The Occitanie region is taking significant steps towards promoting renewable hydrogen as a key element in its 'Positive energy' strategy. With a dedicated plan focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric pollution, the region aims to lead the way in hydrogen deployment. This initiative involves a substantial budget of EUR 150 million over the period 2019-2030, which is expected to attract one billion euros in investments for the initial phase of hydrogen implementation in industry. The strategy encompasses 11 measures that cover the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to distribution and applications, with an emphasis on training. By mobilizing various sectoral policies related to energy transition, economic development, and transport, among others, along with key agencies like the Energy and Climate Agency and Economic Development Agency, the region is set to drive significant growth in the renewable hydrogen sector. The Corridor H2 European project, a flagship activity of the plan, highlights the focus on using renewable hydrogen for heavy vehicles, the cold chain for transporting fresh products, and regional interurban buses. Through these concerted efforts, Occitanie is poised to make a substantial impact on the development and adoption of renewable hydrogen solutions, setting a positive example for other regions and countries to follow.
