Port of Rotterdam and AM Green Partner to Establish Green Energy Supply Chain
Key Ideas
- Port of Rotterdam and AM Green sign a memorandum of understanding to develop a green energy supply chain between India and Northwestern Europe via Rotterdam.
- The partnership includes the supply of bunkering fuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and the development of terminal infrastructure in Rotterdam and Northwestern Europe.
- They aim to support the distribution of hydrogen-based fuels and products, linking India's net zero industrial clusters to Europe for up to 1,000,000 tons of exports annually.
- The collaboration is expected to facilitate trade of green fuels worth up to US$1 billion and contribute to establishing a robust and sustainable green energy supply chain.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority and India-based energy company AM Green have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a green energy supply chain connecting India and Northwestern Europe through Rotterdam. This scheme will involve the supply of bunkering fuels, sustainable aviation fuels, and the analysis of terminal infrastructure requirements in Rotterdam and across Northwestern Europe. The partnership aims to develop strategic port infrastructure for the safe distribution of hydrogen-based fuels and products, bridging India's net zero industrial clusters with Europe and allowing for annual exports of up to 1,000,000 tons. The Port of Rotterdam Authority anticipates that this envisioned supply chain could facilitate trade of green fuels amounting to US$1 billion between the two economies. CEO Boudewijn Siemons highlighted the significance of this agreement in establishing a robust supply chain for low-carbon fuels and chemicals. The collaboration leverages India's potential for green hydrogen production and Rotterdam's advanced infrastructure to create a sustainable green energy supply chain. Anil Chalamalasetty, the Founder of AM Green, emphasized that this initiative will streamline the movement of green molecules and fuels from India to Europe, reinforcing AM Green's role as a global clean energy transition platform and accelerating industrial decarbonization worldwide.
