Adani Group has made a groundbreaking move by launching India's first hydrogen-powered truck designed for mining logistics operations in Chhattisgarh. The vehicle, unveiled in Raipur by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, aims to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state's power generation facility. With a cargo capacity of up to 40 tonnes and an operational range of 200 kilometers on a single hydrogen refill, this truck signifies a significant advancement in sustainable heavy transportation. The incorporation of three hydrogen storage tanks allows it to match traditional diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles in both capacity and range while drastically reducing harmful emissions. One of the key advantages of hydrogen fuel cell technology is its environmental benefits. Unlike diesel trucks that emit carbon dioxide and pollutants, hydrogen-powered vehicles produce only water vapor and warm air as byproducts, positioning them as one of the cleanest alternatives in commercial transportation. The operational mechanism of the hydrogen fuel cells involves an advanced electrochemical process, generating electricity to power the vehicle's electric motor with water being the only emission. While Adani's launch marks the first utilization of hydrogen power in Indian mining logistics, the technology has already gained traction in global markets. International automotive giants like Toyota and Hyundai have introduced hydrogen-powered passenger vehicles such as the Mirai and Nexo, showcasing a growing acceptance and adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology in the automotive industry.
