BPCL, a state-run oil firm in India, has inaugurated its first and one of the country's largest Green Hydrogen Plants at the Bina Refinery. The 5MW facility, commissioned on April 26, 2025, by BPCL's Chairman and Managing Director, is a significant step towards India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and Net Zero targets for 2070. With a production capacity exceeding 780 tonnes per annum, the plant is expected to reduce around 9,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting India's decarbonization journey. The facility, equipped with two advanced electrolysers, each with a capacity of 500 Nm³/hr, focuses on maximizing energy efficiency. Completed in a remarkable 15 months, the project showcases a new standard in cost-effectiveness and execution speed among India's public sector oil marketing companies. BPCL's vision includes achieving Net Zero in Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2040, emphasizing a sustainable and carbon-neutral future for India's energy sector.
