Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has inaugurated a significant milestone by commissioning a green hydrogen plant at the Bina Refinery, making it one of India's largest facilities of its kind. The 5MW plant, inaugurated virtually by BPCL's Chairman and Managing Director, G. Krishnakumar, aims to contribute to India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and the country's Net Zero targets for 2070. With a production capacity exceeding 780 tonnes per annum, the plant is set to play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions by approximately 9,000 tonnes annually, thus bolstering India's efforts in decarbonization. The plant is equipped with two advanced electrolysers, each capable of producing 500 Nm³/hr, ensuring maximum energy efficiency. Impressively, the project was completed within a mere 15 months, showcasing exemplary speed in execution and cost-effectiveness within India's public sector oil marketing domain. This commissioning underscores BPCL's commitment to achieving Net Zero in Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2040, propelling India towards a sustainable and carbon-neutral energy landscape.
