In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Coal India Limited (CIL) has entered into a groundbreaking agreement with Hyderabad-based Greenko Group's AM Green for the supply of 4500 MW of carbon-free energy to support the production of green ammonia. This deal, considered one of the largest renewable energy contracts globally, will see CIL setting up solar and wind capacities across India, with a major focus on states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, and southern India. The collaboration aims to integrate renewable sources with pumped hydro storage to ensure a consistent supply of green energy to AM Green's facilities. Both CIL and AM Green have formalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate this long-term supply of green energy, in line with India's ambitions of achieving a cleaner energy mix and transitioning towards net-zero emissions. AM Green, led by Anil Chalamalasetty, envisions becoming a key player in the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia on a global scale. Their target of producing 5 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia by 2030, including a substantial amount of green hydrogen, is a significant contribution towards India's green hydrogen production goal. This partnership represents a proactive step by CIL in fostering a greener and more sustainable future, showcasing a commitment to evolving as a comprehensive energy provider in the country.
