Hyundai Motor India has revealed the design of the Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre, a hydrogen research hub, in Chennai. The centre, established in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and Guidance Tamil Nadu, is located at IIT Madras' Discovery Satellite Campus in Thaiyur. Spanning 65,000 square feet, the facility will feature state-of-the-art laboratories for computational and experimental research, facilitate pilot-scale testing of electrolysers and fuel cells, and incorporate specific areas for containerised hydrogen application demonstrations. Hyundai Motor's Managing Director Unsoo Kim emphasized the company's global efforts over two decades to advance hydrogen technology, including achievements such as producing the world's first mass-produced fuel cell electric vehicle. The establishment of the innovation centre aligns with a commitment made by Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Motor India Foundation during the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet to jointly invest ₹100 crore in the project, with an overall project cost estimated at ₹180 crore. The initiative highlights Hyundai's dedication to driving progress in hydrogen technology and infrastructure at a significant scale.
