Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has introduced two renewable energy hubs in Terenggau, Malaysia, aiming to propel the country to the forefront of the green hydrogen value chain. The first initiative, a hybrid hydro floating solar hub, involves installing solar panels on the Kenyir reservoir in Terenggau through a collaboration between TNB and Terengganu Inc. The second hub focuses on green hydrogen production and is a joint effort between TNB and Petroliam Nasional Berhad. By establishing these hubs, TNB seeks to support Malaysia's energy transition roadmap and enhance its hydrogen economy. The plans include the deployment of 2.5 GW of hybrid hydro-floating solar projects at hydropower dams nationwide, indicating a significant push towards renewable energy integration. Additionally, TNB aims to reinforce grid infrastructure to accommodate the growing renewable energy capacity. As of 2024, Malaysia's cumulative solar capacity has grown to 2,306 MW, reflecting the country's commitment to sustainable energy development and its potential to lead in the green hydrogen sector.
