Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, highlighted the need for India to focus on cost reduction and competitiveness to fully harness the potential of green hydrogen as a clean fuel and ensure long-term energy security. Green hydrogen is a crucial component of India's decarbonisation strategy, especially in sectors like steel, cement, shipping, and heavy transport. The government has taken steps to incentivize green hydrogen production, promote domestic manufacturing, and stimulate demand in key sectors. Collaborations with international partners are also underway to develop certification frameworks, storage, transport, and trade infrastructure for green hydrogen. While pilot projects are progressing in various sectors like steel production, transport, and shipping, challenges such as infrastructure deficiencies and regulatory uncertainties persist. Minister Naik emphasized the opportunity for decentralized green hydrogen production, particularly benefiting India's network of MSMEs and industrial clusters. The development of green hydrogen corridors and state-level infrastructure initiatives are crucial for the sector's long-term success. He encouraged investments in research, manufacturing, infrastructure, and talent development, inviting partnerships with global entities to drive innovation and scale green hydrogen technologies in India.
