Hong Kong businesses are closely monitoring the evolving energy landscape in the Middle East, where Gulf nations are increasingly looking to diversify their economies and embrace sustainable energy solutions. Templewater and Bravo Transport, the companies behind bus operator Citybus, are in talks with Qatar and Kuwait to supply hydrogen buses following a positive pilot project in Abu Dhabi. The chairman, Cliff Zhang Kun, highlighted the interest in energy transition and potential bulk purchases post the pilot project. He noted that while new energy vehicles might face cost challenges due to low petroleum prices, Middle Eastern countries are focused on fostering new industries and leveraging renewable resources such as solar and wind energy for hydrogen production. Zhang emphasized the untapped potential in the region for clean energy initiatives. The upcoming delegation led by Hong Kong's Chief Executive aims to further explore partnerships and opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector between Hong Kong and the Middle East.
