India has embarked on an ambitious journey towards energy independence and reducing emissions by launching the National Green Hydrogen Mission. With a significant financial commitment of $2.4 billion and strategic planning, India aims to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, thereby mitigating around 50 MMT of CO2 emissions annually. The country has already made substantial progress by allocating production and manufacturing capacities to companies, signaling a strong foundation for green hydrogen development. Additionally, India's vision extends to becoming a key global exporter of green hydrogen by 2030, aligning with global decarbonisation efforts and attracting substantial investments while creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. The supportive policies include exemptions for Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia plants from environmental clearances, identification of ports like Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin as Green Hydrogen hubs, and state-level initiatives to promote green hydrogen. The holistic approach outlined in the mission not only aims to meet domestic demands but also positions India as a significant player in the global green hydrogen market. Through this strategic vision and commitment, India is set to play a crucial role in the renewable energy landscape and drive sustainable growth in the coming years.
