OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), a subsidiary of OQ Group in Oman, is at the forefront of developing green hydrogen projects as part of the country's clean energy transition. The company is working on a pilot-scale green hydrogen project with an electrolyser capacity of 10-15 MW in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. This initiative aims to provide practical experience in executing green hydrogen projects, testing their viability, and gathering insights for future large-scale deployments. In the 2024 Sustainability Report of OQ Group, OQAE announced its commitment to various renewable energy projects, including solar and wind energy schemes, with investments amounting to billions of dollars. One of the notable projects is the 100 MW North Solar plant in northern Oman and two 100 MW wind farms in the south. Additionally, OQAE has secured partnerships with key stakeholders to advance Oman's green hydrogen strategy, with plans to produce 1 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen by 2030. Key projects like HYPORT Duqm, Green Energy Oman, and SalalaH2 are crucial components of this strategy. OQAE is also exploring alternative applications for green hydrogen, such as low-carbon bunkering and e-fuel projects, to diversify market opportunities and drive demand. The company's efforts align with Oman's vision of becoming a global hub for sustainable energy production and utilization.
