JCB, a UK-based company, has achieved a major milestone with its hydrogen engine receiving EU type-approval for non-road mobile machinery across all EU member states and other recognized territories. The approval signifies compliance with EU Stage V emissions standards, a crucial step in JCB's hydrogen program. Anthony Bamford, JCB's Chairman, highlighted the approval as evidence of the potential for combustion engines to contribute to a net zero world by utilizing hydrogen as a zero CO2 fuel. This achievement builds on previous clearances by licensing authorities in nine mainland European countries. JCB's hydrogen equipment is currently undergoing advanced real-world testing before its commercial launch, indicating substantial progress in the development and deployment of hydrogen-powered machinery.
