Saudi Arabia's NEOM Green Hydrogen Project, a joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM, is making significant progress with 80% of its construction work completed. The project, situated in the futuristic NEOM megacity, aims to produce 600 metric tonnes of green hydrogen daily, converting it into ammonia for export by 2027. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative, with projections to offset 5 million tonnes of CO2 annually. While many green hydrogen projects globally face challenges such as high costs and limited offtake agreements, NEOM has secured early commitments, including a memorandum of understanding with German company SEFE for hydrogen supply. Despite its green energy investments, Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize oil and gas production, with Saudi Aramco focusing on reducing emissions and investing in carbon capture and storage. In parallel, Saudi Arabia is diversifying its economy by expanding its mining sector, aiming to increase its GDP contribution significantly by 2035. Partnerships with international mining companies and investments in critical minerals demonstrate the Kingdom's commitment to sustainability and building domestic manufacturing capacity. Saudi Arabia's multi-faceted approach towards green energy, oil industry sustainability, and economic diversification positions it as a key player in the global energy transition.
