The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in India has announced the Second Call for Proposals under the Research and Development Scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). Launched in January 2023, the NGHM aims to position India as a global hub for Green Hydrogen production, utilization, and export to promote energy self-reliance and a low-carbon economy. With a substantial financial outlay, the Mission focuses on supporting indigenous technology development for the deployment of Green Hydrogen across the country. The R&D Scheme, operational since March 2024, invites fresh proposals and resubmissions to enhance key aspects of Green Hydrogen technology like production, storage, and utilization. It emphasizes collaborative frameworks and translational research to bridge the gap between innovation and market readiness. Eligible applicants include academic institutions, government bodies, private research institutions, and industries with the necessary infrastructure for Green Hydrogen R&D. Proposals will be evaluated based on factors like relevance, technical feasibility, innovation, and Technology Readiness Levels. The funding support ranges from 80-100% depending on the type of organization, with a strong encouragement for consortia submissions involving academic and industrial partners. Applicants are required to define project goals focusing on scalability, commercialization potential, and sustainability. The submission window for proposals opened on July 14, 2025, and will close on August 21, 2025. The initiative aims to ensure wide participation by involving relevant stakeholders such as State Nodal Agencies, AICTE, UGC, IITs, NITs, and Central Public Sector Units in the R&D activities for Green Hydrogen in India.
