French hydrogen firm HDF Energy has partnered with Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation to evaluate the viability of green hydrogen for reducing carbon emissions in the country's maritime sector. The collaboration includes state utility firm PT PLN and ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, focusing on utilizing locally produced green hydrogen as a clean fuel for domestic shipping. The initiative was formalized during the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit, showcasing a commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The study will specifically concentrate on Eastern Indonesia, leveraging the region's ample solar resources for green hydrogen production. HDF Energy's ongoing construction of 23 hybrid power plants integrating solar energy and green hydrogen storage will facilitate the supply of emissions-free electricity, particularly for ASDP's ferry routes. By utilizing their fuel cells, designed for green hydrogen compatibility, HDF Energy aims to make the maritime sector emission-free at a competitive price point. This project underscores HDF Energy's innovative approach to producing green hydrogen locally while offering zero-emission propulsion solutions for maritime vessels. Moreover, the firm has expanded its partnerships to include PT Pelayaran Bahtera Adhiguna for exploring green hydrogen's application in larger ships, further advancing sustainable practices in the shipping industry.
