Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has reached a significant milestone in India's clean energy journey with the successful commissioning of its first Green Hydrogen Plant at the Bina Refinery. This 5MW facility, inaugurated virtually by Shri G. Krishnakumar, Chairman and Managing Director of BPCL, marks a pivotal step towards advancing the country's clean energy goals and aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and Net Zero targets for 2070. The plant's two advanced electrolysers boast a capacity of 500 Nm³/hr each, designed for optimal energy efficiency. With an annual production capacity exceeding 780 tonnes of green hydrogen, the facility is poised to slash carbon emissions by around 9,000 tonnes annually, significantly aiding India's decarbonization efforts. BPCL's dedication to achieving Net Zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2040 is underlined by this green hydrogen initiative, showcasing the company's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and driving India's broader transition to sustainable, low-carbon energy sources. By demonstrating a swift and cost-effective completion of the project in just 15 months, BPCL sets a new standard for efficient execution among India's public sector oil marketing companies.
