India is intensifying its efforts in the green hydrogen sector with a strategic focus on traceability and global export partnerships. MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi emphasized the need to track green hydrogen utilization across industries to guarantee its origin and enhance transparency, particularly in emissions-intensive sectors like steel. The government is collaborating with green hydrogen producers to establish robust mechanisms for identifying and tracking hydrogen-derived products. These initiatives are in alignment with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, which aims to establish India as a key player in green hydrogen production, consumption, and export. With a target of 5 million tonnes of annual production by 2030, India is committed to leading in the green hydrogen market. Additionally, India is proactively discussing concessions regarding green hydrogen exports as part of future trade negotiations. Engagements with European stakeholders, including prominent ports like Rotterdam and Antwerp, are underway to ensure the development of secure transmission infrastructure for green hydrogen exports. The country's green hydrogen momentum is not only focused on domestic utilization but also on bolstering its position in the global market through strategic partnerships and trade relationships.
