Norwegian company Møre Sjø has made a significant move towards sustainable shipping by ordering the construction of two hydrogen-powered bulk carriers. These emission-free vessels, with a length of 85 meters and a deadweight of 4,000 tons, are set to operate in northern and northwestern Norway, transporting materials like sand, stone, and asphalt. One of the ships has already been leased to Nordasfalt. The project, developed over several years, aims to renew and double Møre Sjø's fleet by 2027.
The design of the ships is attributed to Marine engineering company Naval Dynamics, with German firm e-Cap Marine providing the onboard hydrogen solutions. This initiative marks the world's first hydrogen-powered bulk carriers, reflecting a commitment to innovative and environmentally friendly maritime practices.
