The scenic railway line from Montréjeau-Gourdan-Polignan to Bagnères-de-Luchon in France was joyously reopened after being closed in 2014 due to damage caused by severe weather. The Occitanie région took the initiative to reopen the 36 km single-track line, fully funding the €67m cost of rehabilitation. The infrastructure works were carried out by a consortium of companies, resulting in a modernized line capable of speeds up to 90 km/h with enhanced safety features. Passenger services are now provided by SNCF Voyageurs, initially using electro-diesel trains until hydrogen-powered trainsets are trialed. The reopening event included music, equestrian displays, and special menus at local restaurants, showcasing community engagement.
