South Korea's largest shipbuilding group HD Hyundai and A.P. Moller-Maersk have entered into a partnership to jointly develop decarbonised shipping technology and global integrated logistics services. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, with key executives from both companies in attendance. Maersk is set to integrate HD Hyundai's ship decarbonisation technologies into its fleet to reduce carbon emissions, while HD Hyundai will utilize Maersk's integrated logistics services across its subsidiaries. The collaboration will see Maersk's newbuilds from HD Hyundai equipped with innovative solutions like Hinas navigation system and Oceanwise AI-based decarbonisation and economic operation solution. Additionally, the partnership will focus on optimizing engine efficiency, increasing cargo capacity on container ships, and potentially incorporating a solid oxide fuel cell system through HD Hyundai subsidiary, HD Hydrogen. Maersk's chairman, Robert Maersk Uggla, highlighted the importance of the partnership, emphasizing the longstanding trust and respect between the two companies. The collaboration signifies a significant milestone in their relationship and sets the stage for further cooperation in the future.
