Key Ideas
  • Occitanie region launches a renewable hydrogen development plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, with a budget of EUR 150 million for 2019-2030.
  • The plan aims to accelerate the deployment of competitive hydrogen solutions to establish the region as a leader nationally and in Europe.
  • Corridor H2 European project under the plan focuses on using renewable hydrogen for heavy vehicles, cold chain transportation, and regional buses.
The Occitanie region is taking significant strides in renewable hydrogen development as part of its 'Positive energy' strategy. With the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric pollution, the region has unveiled a comprehensive plan to promote the large-scale deployment of competitive hydrogen solutions. The plan, with a budget of EUR 150 million spanning from 2019 to 2030, aims to attract one billion euros in investments for the initial implementation of hydrogen in industry. This initiative consists of 11 measures that cover the entire process from production to distribution and application, with a strong emphasis on training. To ensure the success of the plan, various sectoral policies related to energy transition, economic development, research, transport, and more have been put into action. Collaborating entities such as the regional Energy and Climate Agency, Economic Development Agency, and Occitanie Europe are actively involved. A key highlight of the plan is the Corridor H2 European project, which promotes the use of renewable hydrogen in heavy vehicles, cold chain transportation for fresh products, and regional interurban buses. By spearheading such initiatives, Occitanie is positioning itself at the forefront of renewable hydrogen technology and sustainable development.
