Hyundai Motor India, in partnership with the Tamil Nadu government and IIT Madras, is set to establish the Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre, a ₹180 crore research and development facility dedicated to hydrogen technologies. The centre, scheduled to become operational by 2026 at IIT Madras’ Discovery Campus in Thaiyur, aims to drive innovation in green hydrogen and deepen research in production, storage, and application of hydrogen, with a focus on sustainable mobility and power solutions. The project, announced during the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, is seen as a key catalyst for India's transition to clean energy. The facility will include cutting-edge experimental and computational labs for developing digital twins, pilot-scale electrolyser and fuel cell systems, and test zones for industrial-scale solutions. Hyundai Motor India MD Unsoo Kim highlighted that the centre will be an open innovation platform, fostering collaboration between international experts, Indian researchers, and industry partners. The initiative aligns with India’s sustainability vision, aiming to contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat goals and promoting public–private partnerships to establish Tamil Nadu as a national hub for clean-tech innovation. The Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre is a testament to Hyundai's commitment to the Indian market as a hub for sustainable technologies.
