Innovative BioFlux Technology to Revolutionize Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production in Sarawak
Key Ideas
- SEDCE collaborates with Sulzer Chemtech to deploy BioFlux technology at Sarawak’s SAF pilot plant, converting local feedstocks into sustainable aviation fuel.
- Sulzer provides support throughout the project, from engineering to commissioning, marking a milestone for sustainable aviation in Southeast Asia.
- The initiative aims to strengthen Sarawak's global presence in sustainable energy and oil & gas, fostering a greener future for the state.
- BioFlux technology, known for its liquid-full reactor design, optimizes hydrogen availability, enhances yield, and reduces production costs.
SEDCE is partnering with Sulzer Chemtech to introduce BioFlux technology at Sarawak’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) pilot plant. This collaboration aims to convert locally sourced Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) feedstocks, including algae oil, palm oil mill effluent (POME), animal fats, and used cooking oil, into sustainable aviation fuel. Sulzer will oversee the project, providing engineering, design, and plant supply services. The involvement of Sulzer signifies a significant advancement in sustainable aviation in Southeast Asia. SEDCE's goal is to bolster Sarawak's position in emerging energy sectors and the downstream oil and gas industry through the development of a new energy ecosystem for a more sustainable future. The BioFlux technology, developed by Duke Technologies and licensed by Sulzer Chemtech, offers a unique liquid-full reactor design that optimizes hydrogen availability, eliminates the need for a vapor recycle loop, and reduces production costs while extending catalyst life. Robert Hardin, CEO of SEDCE, expressed optimism about the partnership with Sulzer and the potential of technologies like BioFlux to produce top-quality sustainable aviation fuel from local resources. Ilja Mikenberg from Sulzer Chemtech praised the high performance and low emissions of BioFlux technology, aligning with environmental goals and operational efficiency. The project signifies a crucial step towards realizing a sustainable energy future in Sarawak, emphasizing the importance of innovative technologies in driving green energy initiatives.
