ORLEN Group Secures Funding for Green H2 and Hydrogen Eagle Projects in Poland
Key Ideas
  • ORLEN Group has secured 1.7 billion zlotys in non-repayable funding for its Green H2 and Hydrogen Eagle projects under the National Recovery Plan, focusing on renewable and low-emission hydrogen production.
  • The initiatives aim to fortify European hydrogen infrastructure, reduce CO₂ emissions, and advance hydrogen production through innovative waste-to-hydrogen technology powered by renewable sources and municipal waste.
  • ORLEN plans to achieve a total electrolysis-based hydrogen production capacity of 0.9GW by 2035, with significant domestic development in Poland, supported by investments in PEM electrolyser technology for zero-emission hydrogen production.
  • The funding and projects demonstrate a commitment to decarbonisation, technological innovation, and expansion of the hydrogen supply network, positioning ORLEN Group as a key player in the sustainable energy transition.
ORLEN Group has secured 1.7 billion zlotys ($460 million) in non-repayable funding under the National Recovery Plan for its Green H2 and Hydrogen Eagle hydrogen projects. These initiatives aim to advance renewable hydrogen production through electrolysis using renewable energy sources and low-emission hydrogen from municipal waste. The funding, awarded under the Investments in Hydrogen Technologies, Storage, and Transport of Hydrogen measure, will support the creation of diverse sources for both renewable and low-emission hydrogen. The Hydrogen Eagle project will utilize innovative waste-to-hydrogen technology powered by renewable energy and municipal waste to produce hydrogen, contributing to the strengthening of European hydrogen infrastructure and reduction of CO₂ emissions. The Green H2 project, focusing on generating renewable hydrogen for refinery operations, will feature a 100MW electrolyser and energy storage system. ORLEN Group aims to achieve a total electrolysis-based hydrogen production capacity of 0.9GW by 2035, with a focus on domestic development in Poland. Investments in PEM electrolyser technology will support zero-emission hydrogen production. The recent funding and projects reflect ORLEN's commitment to decarbonisation, innovation, and expansion of the hydrogen supply network.
